2018 UTEP Department of Art Biennial Faculty Exhibition
Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts        2018
The faculty biennial at the Rubin Center featured work by 25 members of the Art Department at the University of Texas at El Paso, ranging from painting and metals, to graphic design and ceramics. As a response to the design approach in previous years—and the lack of a “theme” and visual liaison between the pieces—the solution was purely typographic. The tagline “this is the work of our faculty” became the key messaging; the pictureless mailer—which unfolds as a poster—features an original text that speaks about the creative spirit and illustrates what lies beneath an artist’s work. The poster becomes a visual metaphor, and through unobtrusive design and clean layouts it was possible to create a design lexicon that established consistency and allowed for a dialogue among the works on display.

This project was developed closely with Victoria Aviles, Graphic and Production Manager, and Kerry Doyle, Director, at the Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts.
